It’s Saturday at the SCAD Foundation (Soi Cats and Dogs) centre in Bangkok, and Terezija the vet is bathing a little kitten. He is called Luk Chai and is digging his claws into her arm and miaowing sharply. Luk Chai and his three siblings have contracted a skin infection and need to be bathed twice a week, whether they like it or not. A small crowd of volunteers has gathered around the tub to watch the spectacle. "Do you need some help maybe?" Delphine asks, and reaches for one of the wet kittens. Delphine has been volunteering at SCAD for over a year and now she is leaving Bangkok, and this is her last day. "Now I have to say goodbye to all the animals. It’s quite sad", she says. As an experienced volunteer, Delphine knows that no two days at the SCAD centre are alike, and this Saturday proves to be no different. Just as the kittens’ bathing session is over, a woman arrives with two kittens only a couple of days old. The woman’s name is Tami and she is a regular volunteer and foster carer for SCAD. Since these kittens were abandoned by their mother Tami decided to foster them, but as she is going for away for a week she needed to ask SCAD for help to care for the kittens while she is gone. "So who will take care of them?" she asks, as volunteer Terezija takes a couple of steps forward. "I am", she says, reaching for the two little ones, still too young to open their eyes. "Oh, you are so cute", she says, knowing that the coming week will be busy with two new friends to feed every three hours. Fortunately, this doesn’t bother her because, as she says: "We are going to discover the world together." SCAD is always looking for new donors, volunteers, foster homes and adoptive families. "Oh, you don’t like this, do you? But you know, it’s for your own good. Just a little bit more water now. There you go."
