Rocco

Date of Birth: (estimated) 2006

Found near the Khao San Road in May 2009, Rocco was seriously emaciated. SCAD volunteers initially de-wormed him and monitored his progress. After several weeks it was determined that his condition had not improved but was in fact slowly deteriorating. Rocco was taken to a vet to get diagnosis and treatment. At this point he weighed just 2.35 kg. The vet determined that Rocco had a broken pelvis and tail bone (probably from a collision with a car) both of which had healed, however the damaged pelvis was restricting Rocco’s elimentary canal. Orthopedic surgery was considered but the risks were determined to be to great, so a very simple programme of management was implemented, where by Rocco was put on a “wet food only” diet receives a dose of liquid laxative once a day which is simple to give him (because it is tasteless). Rocco soon piled on the weight and turned into a handsome and loving boy (though not always too fond of other cats!).
