"Hearts and Hounds" Takes Off!

Tii-Ruk at Heaven Can Wait in Canada

Staff and volunteers with soi dog "Tii Ruk" at Heaven Can Wait,
a wonderful shelter for dogs & cats in Calgary, Canada.

Read the whole story in our December Newsletter of Tii Ruk, a 3-legged dog from the streets of Bangkok who found her way to Canada and into the hearts of the people of Calgary.

Tii Ruk isn't the only rescued soi dog to earn wings to fly! The second small angel to reach Calgary in January 2008 was a female named "Thai", rescued from Hua Hin, a seaside resort in Thailand. The joints in Thai's back legs had fused together following a traffic accident, giving her no flexibility of movement. She walks with a Charlie Chaplin style gait, enough to make one smile but a tragedy for her as this odd way of walking meant she was picked on by stronger members of the beach pack. From the moment she arrived in Canada, Thai's friendly personality endeared her to Kim, Founder of Heaven Can Wait - the foster shelter in Calgary.

Kim has since claimed Thai as part of her own family, loving the determination and warmth she shows in her approach to everything and everyone. She'll spend a happy lifetime with Kim - and that's a heavenly ending for any dog, let alone a stray from the steets of Thailand!

How you can help:

To ensure this programme succeeds, SCAD needs the help of anyone flying from Bangkok, Thailand to either Calgary, Seattle or Washington DC to accompany the rescued street dogs overseas. SCAD processes all the paperwork and pays all costs, including obtaining the necessary veterinary health certificate and export licence. All the traveller need do is turn up at the check-in desk on the day of departure, and be prepared to be a crucial link in a rescue operation!
