SCAD Newsletter - July & August 2011

There are no translations available.

Dear SCAD Supporter,

Summer is almost over and we at SCAD have lots of news to share with you. Both our Cat and Dog Health Centers are now open for business and with the moves behind us our focus is once again entirely on doing all we can to improve the lot of Thailand's street cats and dogs.

To celebrate, this newsletter is dedicated to the animals. In addition to the regular updates on our activities, events, donors and programs, we want to bring you the stories of the animals we see and help in the communities we serve. We are certain you'll find the dogs and cats we help as inspiring as we do!

Just a reminder: We are back to our normal business days of Tuesday to Saturday at both our Sukhumvit 93 Cat Health Center and our new Dog Health Center. Those interested in our dogs must make an appointment by emailing or calling our operations managers at: อีเมลนี้จะถูกป้องกันจากสแปมบอท แต่คุณต้องเปิดการใช้งานจาวาสคริปก่อน or 02-730-3506. Volunteers who have not yet been to our new centers should contact our volunteer coordinator to arrange their first visit.

SCAD Newsletter - March & April 2011

There are no translations available.

Dear SCAD Supporter,

Welcome to our newsletter for March and April. We have an important announcement related to the upcoming SCAD move.

Due to extremely heavy workload the move project places on our small team of staff and volunteers, effective immediately, SCAD is closed for all activities other than local cat and dog adoptions. Local adoptions will continue on an appointment-only basis. Until further notice, SCAD will be closed for all business on Saturdays.

International adoptions, community and veterinary outreach, general enquiries, events and education will all stop until further notice (except, of course, for existing commitments).

Long-term, regular weekday volunteers are still very welcome to help out with their usual duties during this time.

Thank you for your support, patience and understanding. We are all very much looking forward to getting back to normal operations by the end of April.

News from Wendy Edney, SCAD Foundation General Manager:

Dear supporter

Happy Valentine's Day from everyone at SCAD! This month's newsletter is full of stories of the big hearts that abound at SCAD - human and animal both.

Big News On SCAD's Big Move!

There is so much news to share about what's going on and coming up at SCAD! So, through this newsletter, Facebook and our web site I do hope that we can keep you well informed.

After six months of seemingly endless property search, two great premises have been found:

1. The SCAD Cat Health Center: a bright and breezy, five-story shophouse on Sukhumvit 93. This location will house 20 adoptable cats, a clinic for sterilization surgery, vaccination and treatments for 20 street cats per week, small retail space, and all office, education and administrative functions. The top floor of the building will have a secure indoor/outdoor cattery where our adoptable cats can continue to enjoy room to roam in safety.

2. The SCAD Dog Health Center: just over 1 Rai (1,600 square meters) of land  in a quiet, rural location, 40 km east of Bangkok, off the Bangna-Trad Highway. Lots of adjoining fields to roam and fish ponds to swim in! This location will house 20 adoptable dogs, and a clinic for sterilization surgery, vaccination and treatments for 20 street dogs per week. The site has two basic buildings already erected, and four rough yards.

News from Wendy Edney, SCAD Foundation General Manager:

Dear SCAD Supporter,

Happy New Year!

I do hope that 2011 will bring health and happiness to you and your family.

Can you believe that it's mid-January already? As the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun, which is what I did while taking a break with my family in Australia. The holiday has recharged my batteries and given me much-needed focus for the big projects ahead, including moving SCAD to new premises. More on that later....

First, THANK YOU most sincerely for your support in 2010. What a turbulent year it was for Thailand. With your help, we continued to improve life for hundreds of dogs and cats, living homeless on Bangkok's streets. The hungry, diseased and injured animals don't have a say in their plight. With your support, SCAD reduces their suffering and gives hope for a healthy future. They need us and SCAD needs you - thank you for sticking by us through thick and thin.

A Message from our General Manager, Wendy Edney

Since my last letter, our move strategy has changed a little - for the better. It has been extremely difficult finding property that meets all of SCAD's needs, particularly with our modest budget and number of animals in care. The management team is nervous about large capital outlay for any leased premises, and rightly so. Financial resources are precious, and I am mindful to put donor funds to best use, for the short and medium term. Sterilization and treatment projects must retain high priority and none of us want to see any further disruption to that vital aspect of our work.

We've come up with a solution involving two leased properties, for which negotiations are underway. Please wish us luck for a successful outcome!

The first is a five-storey shophouse off Sukhumvit Road, easily accessible by taxi and public transport. This will act as the SCAD head office, education room and cat adoption centre. Cat sterilization surgery will also be done on-site.

The second is a rural facility for housing our adoptable dogs and those with us for sterilization and release. Adoptable dogs will be brought to the Sukhumvit office for "Adoption Days", and the location of the dog premises will remain secret in order to better control noise and the incidence of puppy dumping.

Although owning our own land is a long way off, it is something we continue to strive for. In the meantime, SCAD will continue to help hundreds of Bangkok's homeless animals each year.

Dear SCAD Supporter

It’s been a while since I’ve been in touch with general news. I’m sorry about that, it has been a very hectic time for all of us in Bangkok, not just at SCAD. The political situation caused a lot of problems here, and adversely affected our operations for two months.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SIMPLY INCREDIBLE RESPONSE TO MY APPEAL FOR HELP!!

As at 31st May over US$35,000 (THB 1,140,000) has been RAISED

Despite the crisis the vital work that we do with animals here in Bangkok continued, thanks to you. The stories below that I have been pulling together are still relevant and I hope that you enjoy them. So, find a comfy chair and take the time to catch up on how you’ve helped SCAD over the last few months. Please also look out for future news on how we put your donation to use.

Thanks for your ongoing support – we can’t do it without you.
